When Purpose Meets Potential: A Powerful Day at ALX Kenya

On July 3rd, 2025, ALX Kenya had the honour of hosting the Friends of St. Martin’s, a delegation of Salesforce executives led by Miguel Milano, President and Chief Revenue Officer at Salesforce. What began as a simple visit evolved into a deeply impactful day, one that brought together innovation, inspiration, and opportunity under one roof.

Stories That Move Us

The day began with a powerful alumni session, where three of our graduates, Valentine Muriuki, Stacy Cheruto, and Patrick Orangi, shared their personal journeys. Each story highlighted not just the skills and knowledge they gained at ALX, but the confidence and clarity that has carried them into thriving careers. These moments reminded all of us what access, mentorship, and belief can truly unlock.

Entrepreneurship in Action

Next, three emerging African startups took the stage to pitch their ventures: eMoti, Klima360, and Nomachain. Presenting to a room full of global leaders, each entrepreneur delivered their vision with purpose and conviction. In the end, eMoti was declared the winner, receiving strategic support to continue scaling their impact. It was a proud moment for us all, proof that great ideas are thriving across the continent.

Fireside Insights: The Future of AI and Leadership

One of the most anticipated moments of the day was a fireside chat between ALX Founder & CEO Fred Swaniker and Miguel Milano. Their conversation explored the intersection of AI, digital transformation, and the evolving definition of leadership in the modern era.

Miguel shared how Salesforce grew from a $1.5 billion company in 2011 to a $260 billion market cap today, a journey driven by constant reinvention and a commitment to staying ahead of technological change. He spoke passionately about the Salesforce 1% Pledge and how it inspired his deep involvement with St. Martin’s School in Kibagare, a school serving youth from disadvantaged communities in Nairobi.

The key takeaway for the youth in the room?

“Don’t be afraid. Be prepared. Focus on AI... In 20 years, there will only be AI… but AI will never replace human passion.” – Miguel Milano

Fred also shared a reminder that “The only way to justify privilege is by solving real problems and doing hard things."

The message was clear: the future will be shaped by those who are bold enough to embrace change and committed enough to use it for good.

A Celebration of Access and Opportunity

The event ended on a joyful and emotional note as we announced that four students from St. Martin’s School had earned full-ride scholarships to the African Leadership University (ALU). For students from a community that has faced significant challenges, this moment represented more than a scholarship; it was a gateway to possibility, and a powerful symbol of what happens when support meets ambition.

This is ALX

At ALX, we are committed to developing the next generation of ethical, entrepreneurial African leaders, at scale. This visit was a celebration of the partnerships, people, and purpose that make this work possible.

We are deeply grateful to the Salesforce team and Friends of St. Martin’s for joining us, for investing their time and energy in our mission, and for reminding us that the future truly belongs to those who dare to build it.
